Meet The Doctors
Sarah J. Smith, DDS
Dr. Smith’s quality standards include the highest levels of clinical excellence. She is very caring and comforting and treats everyone like family. She honestly cares for each person’s well-being, and serves as a role model for how to be giving and caring to all.
If you ask her when her passion for dentistry began, she’ll say it was when she was 9 years old. Her first dental degree was awarded in the Dominican Republic. After moving to the U.S., she completed her doctorate at the University of Buffalo in 1996, and her residency at The Genesee Hospital in Rochester soon after. She has been practicing in the Rochester area ever since, and serving patients in her current office since 2000.
Dr. Smith is a member of the American Dental Association, New York State Dental Society, and an active member of the Monroe County Dental Society. She is also a member of the Hispanic Business Association and is completely fluent in both English and Spanish languages.
She is married, has a son and daughter, two cats and two dogs. She enjoys going to church and enjoying quality time with her family.
Gilbert F. Hernandez, DMD
Dr. Hernandez was born and raised in Rochester, NY and was introduced to dentistry by his mentor, Dr. Sarah J. Smith. He is extremely grateful to her for providing the motivation and guidance to pursue a career in dentistry.
After completing two years of study at Monroe Community College, Dr. Hernandez moved to Buffalo, NY where he received a Bachelor of Biology degree from SUNY Buffalo in 2013. He then worked for two years as a mechanic and musician until his admission to Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 2015. Upon graduation, Dr. Hernandez completed his General Practice Residency at Rochester General Hospital in his hometown of Rochester.
In his free time, Dr. Hernandez enjoys playing the keyboard in a salsa orchestra and spending time with friends and family. He is fluent in both English and Spanish and is very excited to be part of the Full Heart Dentistry team.

Michelle Wansha, R.D.H.
Registered Dental Hygenist
“When I’m able to see someone who was once apprehensive about dental care, relax in trust and feel good about their smile again—that’s why I do what I do.”
Michelle has been a dental hygienist for over 30 years. She graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Dental Hygiene from Monroe Community College, then later her Bachelors of Science Degree, Summa Cum Laude, from SUNY Brockport.
Michelle lives in Irondequoit with her husband, two children, and their dog, Ripley. Her free time is devoted to friends and family, as well as reading and writing. She has taught Sunday School, lead a Girl Scout Troop, and loves working with children. She is excited to introduce you and your family to Full Heart Dentistry as your new dental home.
Carla , R.D.H.
Registered Dental Hygenist
What Carla enjoys most as a hygienist is connecting with her patients. She believes that establishing a trusting relationship is key in order to give her patients the most comfortable, positive, and uplifting dental experience.
Carla lives in Irondequoit with her 3 children and husband. She attended Bishop Kearney High School and Monroe Community College. She enjoys cooking up healthy meals, listening to inspirational podcasts on her brisk walks, attending school sporting events, and spending time with her family. Dancing, bowling, and tennis, are her pastime faves. She loves her two rescue cats Pepe a Pumpkin.
